What does Isaiah 37:9 mean?
When King Sennacherib of Assyria learned that an Egyptian force under Tirhakah was advancing toward him, he immediately sent word to Hezekiah in Jerusalem. This moment captures a turning point in a siege, when the immediate threat shifts and diplomatic pressure changes. Sennacherib was essentially warning Hezekiah not to hope for rescue, trying to keep the king of Judah from finding courage in the news of an approaching army.
