Isaiah 37:3
“They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘Today is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to give birth.”
What does Isaiah 37:3 mean?
King Hezekiah's messengers use an old image here, comparing Judah's crisis to a woman in labor who suddenly loses all her strength to deliver. The Assyrian army is surrounding Jerusalem, and the kingdom feels utterly helpless, unable to save itself. Hezekiah isn't denying the reality of the danger, but he's reaching out to the prophet Isaiah, essentially saying, "We're at the breaking point—we need God's help." What makes this moment real is the raw honesty: sometimes our circumstances bring us to a place where we simply cannot fix things ourselves, and that's when we discover whether we'll turn to God or fall into despair.
