“Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?”
What does Isaiah 37:12 mean?
This is the Assyrian king Sennacherib taunting King Hezekiah of Judah, essentially saying, "Look at all the nations I've conquered and their gods couldn't save them—so what makes you think your God will save you?" It's a taunt meant to instill fear and hopelessness, with Sennacherib listing places his armies had already destroyed as proof of his power.
