What does Isaiah 36:17 mean?
The Assyrian commander is trying to persuade the people of Jerusalem to surrender by promising them life in a fertile, prosperous land if they give up their resistance. He's essentially saying: don't fight us, because we'll treat you well and resettle you somewhere just as good as home. It's a tempting offer designed to break their will to resist, playing on their fear of destruction and their desire for security and comfort.
