Isaiah 36:10

Have I come up now without Yahweh against this land to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, “Go up against this land, and destroy it.”’”

What does Isaiah 36:10 mean?

The Assyrian commander is using a psychological tactic here, claiming that even God is on his side in this attack against Jerusalem. He's trying to convince the people that resistance is futile because their own God has supposedly authorized the invasion. It's a particularly cruel form of manipulation, taking the language of faith and weaponizing it to create despair and division. The claim is false, of course, but it reveals how the commander understands that faith matters to these people, and he's counting on fear making them believe his lie rather than trust what they actually know about God's character and promises to them.
