Isaiah 31:3
“Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When Yahweh stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.”
What does Isaiah 31:3 mean?
This passage speaks directly to people tempted to rely on human power instead of God's protection. Isaiah is warning Judah against trusting Egypt's military strength (horses and soldiers were their most impressive weapons at the time) to save them from Assyrian invasion. The point is stark: no matter how impressive human armies look, they're still just flesh and blood with real limits, while God operates on an entirely different level. When God acts, all the carefully laid human plans collapse. The helper and the helped both go down together because they've built their strategy on something ultimately fragile.
