Isaiah 30:16
“but you said, “No, for we will flee on horses”; therefore you will flee; and, “We will ride on the swift”; therefore those who pursue you will be swift.”
What does Isaiah 30:16 mean?
When Isaiah spoke these words, Judah was facing the Assyrian empire and wanted to escape by relying on military strength and speed rather than trusting God. The prophet is saying that their refusal to depend on God will ironically guarantee the very thing they fear: they'll need to flee, and their pursuers will catch them anyway. There's a gentle irony here about how our attempts to save ourselves often backfire.
