What does Isaiah 30:10 mean?
In Isaiah's time, the people of Judah were facing a national crisis, but instead of listening to God's true message through the prophets, they wanted to hear only what made them feel better. They were essentially asking spiritual leaders to lie to them, to smooth over the hard truths and paint a rosy picture instead. It's a picture of people in denial, demanding comfort over honesty because the truth was too difficult to face. This speaks to something many of us recognize: it's tempting to surround ourselves only with voices that tell us what we want to hear. We might avoid difficult conversations, unfollow people who challenge us, or seek out only the news and advice that confirms what we already believe. Isaiah is showing us where that impulse leads—disconnected from reality and unprepared for what's actually coming. Real wisdom often comes from being willing to hear hard truths, even when they're uncomfortable.
