What does Isaiah 3:2 mean?
This verse is part of Isaiah's warning that God will strip away all the leadership and stability Jerusalem depends on, leaving them vulnerable. He's listing the people they trust most: military leaders, judges, spiritual guides, and elders, the ones who normally hold society together and make decisions. The point isn't that these roles are bad in themselves, but that when a nation turns away from God, even their wisest and strongest leaders won't be able to save them. It's a sobering reminder that no human authority, no matter how capable, can ultimately protect us without God's blessing. Sometimes we learn this the hard way, through loss or upheaval, when we realize that all the earthly power and expertise we thought we could count on wasn't enough.
