What does Isaiah 3:19 mean?
This verse is part of Isaiah's critique of the wealthy women of Jerusalem who wore luxurious accessories while ignoring the poor and vulnerable around them. The prophet lists these ornaments, earrings and bracelets and veils, as symbols of pride and self-indulgence that distracted from what truly mattered: justice and compassion. The passage reminds us that external beauty and expensive possessions can become a kind of blindness, keeping us focused on ourselves rather than on others' suffering. It's a gentle but serious question for any of us: what are we adorning ourselves with, and what are we neglecting as a result?
