Isaiah 29:17

Isn’t it yet a very little while, and Lebanon will be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field will be regarded as a forest?

What does Isaiah 29:17 mean?

Isaiah is painting a picture of radical reversal and restoration. Lebanon, known for its magnificent cedar forests, will become cultivated farmland, while ordinary farmland will grow wild and lush like a forest. It's a poetic way of saying that God will completely transform what seems permanent and fixed in the world. This comes in a passage where Isaiah is reminding people that God's plans often work in ways that confound human expectations. When everything feels stuck or hopeless, this verse whispers that drastic change is coming, sooner than we think. The "very little while" suggests that what feels impossible now is actually on the horizon. For those struggling or waiting, there's comfort here: the landscape of your life might look completely different soon, not through your own efforts alone, but through God's intervention.
