What does Isaiah 29:1 mean?
Jerusalem is addressed here as "Ariel," a poetic name meaning "lion of God," and Isaiah is announcing judgment coming to the city. The prophet is saying that despite all the religious ceremonies and festivals the people faithfully observe year after year, their worship has become hollow because their hearts are turned away from God. This isn't about getting rid of celebrations, but about the disconnect between outward religious practice and genuine devotion.
