What does Isaiah 23:8 mean?
Tyre was one of the ancient world's great commercial powerhouses, a wealthy Phoenician city whose traders and merchants held enormous influence across the Mediterranean. This verse captures their pride and status, describing them almost mockingly as people used to giving crowns to others and wielding royal authority through their wealth. Isaiah is asking, in a tone of pointed irony, who would dare to challenge such a powerful, seemingly untouchable force.
