Isaiah 21:6
“For the Lord said to me, “Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.”
What does Isaiah 21:6 mean?
God is calling Isaiah to be a messenger, a watchman positioned to see what's coming and warn others. The image draws from ancient city walls, where lookouts would stand watch and sound alarms when danger appeared. Here, God wants Isaiah to observe what He's doing in history and then speak it aloud so people aren't caught off guard. There's something comforting in this: God doesn't leave us in darkness. He places people among us who help us see what matters, who call us to pay attention. Whether that's through Scripture, faithful teaching, or the quiet discernment of people we trust, God works to keep us awake and aware rather than blindsided.
