What does Isaiah 2:8 mean?
Isaiah is describing a people who have turned away from God and instead crafted their own gods from wood and stone, then bowed down to worship them. It's a piercing observation about human nature: we create things we think will comfort us or give us control, and then we end up serving the very things we made. This applies not just to ancient carved idols, but to anything we chase hoping it will fill the emptiness only God can fill—whether that's money, status, relationships, or even our own accomplishments. The tragedy Isaiah points to is that we exhaust ourselves worshiping creations when we could rest in the presence of our Creator.
