Isaiah 19:22
βYahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to Yahweh, and he will be entreated by them, and will heal them.β
What does Isaiah 19:22 mean?
When Isaiah speaks of Egypt being struck and then healed, he's describing a pattern we see throughout Scripture: sometimes God allows difficulty into our lives to turn our hearts back toward him. The striking isn't punishment for its own sake, but rather a wake-up call, something that breaks through our independence and self-reliance so we finally turn to where real help comes from. What's beautiful here is that the healing follows naturally. God isn't waiting to be convinced of his compassion, he's simply waiting for us to ask. The moment Egypt returns to the Lord, he responds with restoration. There's an invitation hidden in those words for anyone who feels far from God right now: turning back toward him isn't met with more judgment, but with the willingness to heal.
