Isaiah 19:16
“In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because of the shaking of Yahweh of Armies’s hand, which he shakes over them.”
What does Isaiah 19:16 mean?
When Isaiah wrote this, he was describing a future moment when Egypt would lose its power and confidence in the face of God's judgment. The comparison to women trembling wasn't meant as an insult to women, but rather reflected the ancient mindset that associated military strength with masculinity, so becoming "like women" meant becoming weak and defenseless. What matters here is the deeper truth: no nation's power or pride can stand against God's authority, and when people experience His judgment, even the mightiest are reduced to fear and helplessness. For those of us reading this today, it's a sobering reminder that earthly strength and status are fragile, and ultimate power belongs to God alone.
