“It will be like when the harvester gathers the wheat, and his arm reaps the grain. Yes, it will be like when one gleans grain in the valley of Rephaim.”
What does Isaiah 17:5 mean?
Isaiah is painting a picture of how completely Assyria will strip away Judah's resources, leaving only scattered remnants behind. The image of harvesting and gleaning shows the difference between what a reaper takes (the main crop) and what a gleaner finds afterward (just leftover stalks and missed ears of grain).
