What does Isaiah 16:12 mean?
Moab was a neighboring nation that often opposed Israel, and this verse pictures their spiritual emptiness despite their efforts. No matter how exhausted they become from their religious rituals on the hilltop shrines, or how sincerely they enter their temples to pray, their prayers won't accomplish anything because they're separated from the true God. Isaiah is saying that going through the motions of worship, even with real effort and weariness, can't substitute for a genuine relationship with the living God. This is a sobering reminder that religious activity alone, disconnected from authentic faith, leaves us powerless and unheard.
