What does Isaiah 14:5 mean?

When a ruler's "staff" or "scepter" breaks in ancient imagery, their power and authority are finished, their ability to dominate others shattered. Isaiah is declaring that God has ended the cruel reign of oppressive leaders, bringing their wrongdoing to a halt. For those suffering under injustice, these words offer deep reassurance that no tyrant's power lasts forever, and that God stands against exploitation and cruelty. The verse invites us to trust that even when wickedness seems overwhelming, God's justice is working to break its grip.
