What does Isaiah 13:12 mean?
When Isaiah speaks of making people rarer than gold, he's describing the devastating consequences of the judgment he's announcing over Babylon. The passage is set during a time of great human pride and rebellion against God, and Isaiah is conveying how severe the coming destruction will be: so many people will be lost that survivors will be more precious and harder to find than the rarest treasures.
