Isaiah 11:1
“A shoot will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.”
What does Isaiah 11:1 mean?
This verse speaks of hope emerging from what seems like an ending. Jesse was King David's father, and by Isaiah's time, the royal line had fallen into decline and hardship. Yet the prophet declares that new life will spring from that seemingly dead stump, fresh growth that will flourish and produce fruit. Christians have traditionally understood this as pointing to Jesus coming from David's family line, carrying forward God's promises even when everything looked hopeless. But the image itself speaks to anyone who feels broken or used up: God can bring new beginnings from what appears finished. Sometimes the most beautiful growth comes not from starting fresh on new ground, but from roots that run deep, even through hard seasons.
