“What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth?”
What does Isaiah 10:3 mean?
Isaiah is confronting people who have built their security on injustice and exploitation, asking them to imagine a day when their systems collapse and they have nowhere to turn. The "day of visitation" is God's day of reckoning, when consequences arrive and all the usual escape routes disappear. The prophet's questions aren't meant to shame so much as to wake people up: your money won't protect you, your powerful friends won't be there, and running away won't work. There's a piercing mercy in this warning, though. Isaiah asks these hard questions because there's still time to change course. He's not describing an inevitable fate but inviting people to see the hollowness of what they've been trusting in before it's too late.
