Isaiah 10:26
“Yahweh of Armies will stir up a scourge against him, as in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb. His rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up like he did against Egypt.”
What does Isaiah 10:26 mean?
Isaiah is reassuring people terrified by an invading army that God hasn't abandoned them. He points back to two moments when God dramatically defeated Israel's enemies: the destruction of Midian and the parting of the Red Sea during the exodus from Egypt. The prophet is essentially saying, "Remember what God did before? He can do it again." The image of God lifting his rod over the sea echoes Moses stretching his staff to part the waters, a sign of God's power made visible. In this context, Isaiah wants his frightened audience to know that the same God who saved their ancestors is still present and still able to protect them. Whatever impossible situation they face, it's not bigger than God's track record of deliverance.
