Isaiah 10:16
“Therefore the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.”
What does Isaiah 10:16 mean?
God promises here that those who have grown comfortable and self-satisfied through their wealth and power will experience loss and hardship. The "fat ones" refers to leaders and people who have become bloated with pride and excess, forgetting their dependence on God. "Leanness" represents the stripping away of their confidence and security, while the burning under God's glory suggests that divine judgment, though terrible, serves a purpose within God's righteous plan. This is Isaiah's warning to Assyria and the powerful nations of his time that no amount of military might or accumulated riches can protect you from God's justice.
