Isaiah 1:9
“Unless Yahweh of Armies had left to us a very small remnant, we would have been as Sodom; we would have been like Gomorrah.”
What does Isaiah 1:9 mean?
Isaiah speaks to a nation that's strayed far from God, reminding them that they haven't been completely destroyed only because God has preserved a small, faithful remnant among them. Without that grace, Judah would have faced the same total devastation that came to Sodom and Gomorrah, those cities destroyed for their rebellion and corruption. The prophet is saying that survival itself is a gift, not something the people earned or deserve. There's both a warning here (your sin truly warrants destruction) and a hope (God hasn't abandoned you completely, and through these few faithful ones, restoration is still possible).
