Hosea 9:7
“The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Israel will consider the prophet to be a fool, and the man who is inspired to be insane, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.”
What does Hosea 9:7 mean?
Hosea lived in a time when Israel had turned away from God, and he was called to speak hard truths they didn't want to hear. This verse captures the moment when those consequences finally arrive, when what the prophets warned about becomes real. The "days of visitation" means God is finally acting, bringing the judgment that's been promised. Israel's response, though, is to reject the very messengers trying to help them see what's happening. People dismiss Hosea as crazy or foolish because they can't face what he's saying about their own rebellion and cruelty toward each other. There's something painfully human here: when we're deeply wrong, we often attack the person pointing it out rather than hear them. The tragedy isn't just that Israel faces consequences, but that they've become so distant from God that they can no longer recognize truth even when it comes from someone genuinely trying to call them back.
