Hosea 9:17
βMy God will cast them away, because they did not listen to him; and they will be wanderers among the nations.β
What does Hosea 9:17 mean?
The prophet Hosea is describing what happens when people turn away from God and refuse to hear his voice. This isn't arbitrary punishment, but the natural consequence of rejection: when we cut ourselves off from the source of stability and belonging, we end up scattered and lost, without a true home. The image of wandering among nations captures the deep loneliness and displacement that comes from being separated from God. For Hosea's audience facing exile, this was both a warning about what disobedience leads to and an honest description of their current suffering, meant to call them back to listening and relationship with God.
