Hosea 6:5

Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets; I killed them with the words of my mouth. Your judgments are like a flash of lightning.

What does Hosea 6:5 mean?

God is describing how he has disciplined his people through the prophets' messages, speaking hard truths that cut deeply into their hearts. Those prophetic words were meant to wake them up and turn them back, functioning as a kind of spiritual surgery, not gentle correction. The image of lightning represents how God's judgment comes with clarity and power, sudden and undeniable, leaving no room for misunderstanding or excuse. This isn't a comfortable picture, but it's rooted in something important: God speaks truth into our lives precisely because he cares about our direction and our future.
