Hosea 13:7
“Therefore I am like a lion to them. Like a leopard, I will lurk by the path.”
What does Hosea 13:7 mean?
God is expressing His fierce protection of His people, but here the "protection" comes through His judgment. When Israel turned away from Him and chased after false gods, God stepped into the role of a predator rather than a shepherd. The lion and leopard weren't random violent imagery—they were the most fearsome animals in that land, and God was saying His response to their unfaithfulness would be swift and unavoidable. This is a hard word, but it's rooted in love. Sometimes the most protective thing a parent can do is enforce real consequences when a beloved child is heading toward destruction. The point isn't that God enjoys this, but that He won't simply watch His people self-destruct without confrontation.
