Hosea 13:3
“Therefore they will be like the morning mist, and like the dew that passes away early, like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and like the smoke out of the chimney.”
What does Hosea 13:3 mean?
God is describing what will happen to people who turn away from him and chase empty things instead. Just as morning mist vanishes when the sun rises, as dew evaporates, as chaff scatters in the wind, and as smoke dissipates into nothing, so too will their accomplishments and security fade away. The prophet Hosea uses these everyday images to show that whatever we build without God's foundation won't last, no matter how solid it seems at the time. It's a sobering reminder that only what's rooted in God has real permanence.
