Hosea 11:2

What does Hosea 11:2 mean?
Israel's leaders called the people toward God, but instead of listening, the people turned away and pursued false gods. They were drawn to the worship practices of surrounding cultures, making sacrifices to the Baals (local fertility deities) and burning incense before carved idols. What makes this verse tender is that it comes in a passage where God is comparing himself to a parent who taught his child to walk, only to watch that child reject the parent's love and run toward things that don't truly satisfy. It's a picture of how we sometimes ignore good invitations and chase after empty promises instead.
