What does Hosea 10:2 mean?
When we're torn between competing loyalties, we can't fully commit to anything, and that internal split eventually catches up with us. Hosea is describing Israel's spiritual condition: they tried to worship both God and idols, keeping one foot in each world. That kind of double-heartedness doesn't work, and the consequences become undeniable. The "altars" and "sacred stones" represent the false religious systems Israel had built, the physical places where they'd turned away from God. Hosea is saying that what's been built on a divided foundation can't stand.
