Hosea 1:10
“Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured or counted; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’”
What does Hosea 1:10 mean?
This promise came to Hosea during a time when Israel's relationship with God felt broken and distant, and the prophet uses the image of countless sand to show that God's faithfulness doesn't depend on how things look right now. What was once meant as rejection, "You are not my people," will be completely reversed, and these same people will instead be called children of God, fully restored and beloved. The heart of this message is that shame and separation aren't permanent, no matter how real they feel in the present moment. God is saying that belonging, acceptance, and identity as his children will be their ultimate reality, not the exile and abandonment they're experiencing.
