Hebrews 8:5
“who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moses was warned by God when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, “See, you shall make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.””
What does Hebrews 8:5 mean?
The priests in the Old Testament operated a whole system of worship, sacrifice, and rules that pointed toward something greater and more complete to come. They were working with copies and shadows, like tracing an outline of something real but not having the thing itself. God showed Moses exact blueprints for the tabernacle and its practices because they were meant to teach people about Jesus and how He would eventually make direct access to God possible. When you see something casting a shadow, you know there's a real object creating it, and that's how these ancient practices functioned: they revealed truths about Jesus long before He came, preparing people's hearts to recognize Him when He arrived.
