Hebrews 7:21
“(for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him, “The Lord swore and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.’””
What does Hebrews 7:21 mean?
This passage contrasts the Old Testament priesthood with Jesus' priesthood by highlighting the role of God's sworn oath. The old priests were appointed through normal succession, but Jesus was appointed differently, with God making a solemn vow that He would never revoke or alter. The repetition of God's promise—"will not change his mind"—emphasizes the permanence and unshakeable nature of Christ's role as our priest.
