What does Hebrews 4:6 mean?
God's promise of rest (a life of trust and peace in him) was offered first to the Israelites who wandered in the desert, but they rejected it through their stubborn refusal to believe and obey. So that promise didn't disappear, it simply passed on to the next generation, waiting for people who would actually accept it. The writer is reminding us that God's invitation to stop striving and rest in his faithfulness is still open to us today, but only for those who receive it with genuine faith rather than turning away like those who came before us did.
