What does Hebrews 3:17 mean?
The writer of Hebrews is pointing back to the Israelites who wandered in the desert for forty years after leaving Egypt. Despite witnessing God's miraculous rescue and provision, they repeatedly doubted and rebelled, and that generation never reached the promised land. The question here is rhetorical, meant to make us sit with a sobering truth: God's patience has limits, and persistent rejection of his guidance carries real consequences.
