Hebrews 2:8
“You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we don’t see all things subjected to him, yet.”
What does Hebrews 2:8 mean?
This verse speaks to the tension between what God promised and what we actually see happening in the world right now. The writer is saying that according to Scripture, everything was meant to be under Christ's authority, but if you look around, it clearly doesn't feel that way—pain, injustice, and evil still have real power in our lives. The "yet" at the end is important. It's not denying that bad things are real or that suffering matters. Rather, it's acknowledging that we're living in a waiting period, between what God has already accomplished through Christ and what will finally be completed when he returns. For people walking through difficult seasons, this can be both honest and hopeful: yes, things are broken right now, and your struggles are real, but this brokenness isn't permanent or the final word.
