What does Hebrews 12:6 mean?
The writer of Hebrews is reminding us that God's discipline comes from love, not punishment or rejection. When a parent corrects a child they care about, it's a sign of investment in their growth and character, not indifference or anger. The hard seasons we face—the difficult consequences, the failures that teach us, the weight of learning to live rightly—are often how God shapes us into who we're meant to become. This doesn't mean every hardship is God's direct discipline, but it does mean God doesn't shield us from the natural results of our choices, because that shielding would ultimately harm us.
