What does Hebrews 12:4 mean?
The writer of Hebrews is reminding his readers that while their faith has cost them something, they haven't faced the ultimate price that Jesus paid. He's encouraging them not to lose heart in their spiritual struggle, even when it feels hard, because their suffering—real as it may be—hasn't reached the level of martyrdom. There's both comfort and challenge in this: comfort in knowing that God sees their effort isn't in vain, and challenge in recognizing that Jesus endured far more for their sake. The point isn't to make them feel guilty, but to help them keep perspective when the weight of living faithfully feels overwhelming.
