Hebrews 12:29
βfor our God is a consuming fire.β
What does Hebrews 12:29 mean?
God's holiness is so complete and powerful that nothing impure can stand in His presence, much like a fire that consumes everything it touches. This isn't meant to terrify you, but rather to show us how serious God is about righteousness and how His nature demands our reverence and respect. The image of consuming fire also appears elsewhere in Scripture as a sign of God's purifying presence, refining what is genuine in our faith while burning away what is false. When we understand how utterly holy God is, we're drawn to approach Him with both awe and humility, knowing we need His grace to stand before Him at all.
