Hebrews 1:9
“You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows.””
What does Hebrews 1:9 mean?
This verse celebrates Jesus by quoting Psalm 45, showing how God the Father honored him above all others because of his perfect character. The imagery of anointing with oil of gladness was used in the Old Testament to mark kings and priests as set apart for God's purposes, so this is saying Jesus was chosen and empowered in a unique way.
