Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in Yahweh’s temple.

What does Haggai 2:15 mean?

The prophet Haggai is asking the people to think back to the time before they started rebuilding God's temple—when the foundation stones hadn't even been laid yet. He's creating a moment of reflection, inviting them to remember what their situation was like when the temple work hadn't begun. This sets up his next point: that God is about to shift their circumstances and bless them, now that they've committed to rebuilding what matters spiritually. It's a gentle way of saying, "Look at where you were, and get ready to see where God is taking you."
