Haggai 1:2

What does Haggai 1:2 mean?
God is calling out the excuses his people are making for neglecting their most important work. The Israelites had returned from exile with the task of rebuilding the temple, but they'd gotten comfortable, focusing instead on their own homes and comfort. Their claim that "the time isn't right yet" is the kind of postponement we all recognize, whether we're putting off something spiritual, relational, or practical that we know matters. What makes this passage tender rather than harsh is that God is naming the problem directly so his people can see it clearly. Sometimes we need that honest reflection, not to shame us, but to help us recognize when we've drifted from what we actually value. The invitation underneath is to get back to what's truly important, starting now.
