What does Genesis 9:22 mean?

After Noah got drunk on wine, his son Ham saw him uncovered in his tent and went outside to tell his brothers Shem and Japheth about it. This wasn't an innocent observation—in the cultural context of the ancient world, seeing a parent's nakedness and then publicly reporting it was a serious breach of respect and family honor. What Ham did was expose his father's vulnerability and shame rather than protect his dignity, which set in motion consequences that affected his own son Canaan.
