Genesis 6:7
“Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them.””
What does Genesis 6:7 mean?
God expresses deep sorrow over humanity's corruption and declares He will sweep the earth clean of people and animals alike. The language here—"I am sorry"—shows God genuinely grieving the state of creation, not acting in cold anger but in the pain of witnessing what His beloved humans had become. This comes just before God singles out Noah as righteous, so even in announcing judgment, the story opens a door for redemption. The verse captures something many of us recognize: how heartbreaking it is to see good things ruined, and how sometimes starting over feels like the only path forward.
