“This is how you shall make it. The length of the ship shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.”
What does Genesis 6:15 mean?
God is giving Noah precise instructions for building the ark, and those specific measurements matter more than just getting the dimensions roughly right. A cubit is roughly the length of a forearm, so we're talking about a vessel over 400 feet long, about 70 feet wide, and roughly 45 feet tall, large enough to hold the animals and supplies for the coming flood. The detail here shows God's careful planning and also his confidence in Noah. He's not being vague or leaving room for doubt, but spelling everything out clearly.
