What does Genesis 47:14 mean?

During a severe famine, Joseph—who had risen to power in Egypt—collected payment from people who came to buy grain. As the crisis deepened and people exhausted their savings, all the money in circulation eventually flowed into the royal treasury. This verse shows how Joseph's management of Egypt's grain stores during hard times also consolidated Pharaoh's wealth and power, though it sets up what happens next: when money runs out, people will have nothing left to trade but their livestock and eventually their land.
