“Israel said, “It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.””
What does Genesis 45:28 mean?
Jacob, who has also been called Israel, speaks these words after learning that his son Joseph is alive. For years Jacob believed Joseph was dead, killed by a wild animal. That grief shaped his entire life and colored his relationship with his remaining sons. Now, hearing that Joseph has not only survived but has become powerful in Egypt, Jacob's deepest wound suddenly heals. He doesn't need anything else—not wealth, not security, not explanations. Knowing his beloved son lives and that he might see him again is enough to make the rest of his life feel complete, and it gives him the strength to make the journey to Egypt despite his advanced age.
